YOUNG AMERICANS

Who is ready to break out in 2011-12

29-LW-Ryan Stoa, 4/13/1987, 6-3, 213, Bloomington, MN
An appendectomy in March didn’t help the curve.  Has the size and hands,
just needs to turn the corner and gain consistency.  A little more nastiness
would help, too.  All of these things are what take time to develop among
power forwards, so this isn’t unusual.  Make no mistake, Stoa has better
tools than most.

This team was destroyed by injuries last year.  Make no mistake: This
team is talented up front.  Can they stay on the ice is the question.
Landeskog will be another high first round pick to make an impact.
Mueller's return after missing all of last year with a concussion will be
huge.  The bottom six has plenty of grit.
This is the great unknown about this team.  Can Erik
Johnson rediscover the tools that made him a #1
overall pick?  The goal was to get bigger and meaner,
and Wilson and O'Byrne will provide that.  But are they
actually good enough at defending and can they limit
the chances they give up going for the big hit?
Can Varlamov stay healthy?  Is he as good
as he showed in Washington, or did he
benefit from playing behind one of the most
talented teams in the league?  Can Varlamov
stay healthy?  Yeah, it's that big of a question.
Almost as big as does Giggy still have it if
Varlamov can't stay healthy.
