All the Bruins lost from last year's title team was veteran Mark
Recchi and Michael Ryder.  Seguin has game-breaking
potential and Pouliot adds his size to the 3rd line, unless
Chris
Clark
beats him out.  Very deep and talented forward group.
Again, not much change here, either.  Gone is Tomas Kaberle,
who many feel didn't fit anyway.  Insert
Joe Corvo, a powerplay
guy who may fit the system better than Kaberle.  With
Steven
Kampfer
and Matt Bartkowski available, this is a very deep
unit.  Anyone who slides will be replaced with one of the
up-and-coming players.
Thomas won both the Vezina and Conn
Smythe trophies last year as he put up one of
the most impressive seasons numbers-wise
in history.  Raask is starter material, and
figures to play more as the B's will want to
keep Thomas fresh for the playoffs.
YOUNG AMERICANS

Who is ready to break out in 2011-12

47-D-Steven Kampfer, 9/24/1988, 5-10, 188, Ann Arbor, MI
Small, puck-moving defenseman played well as an injury replacement. After debuting on
12/10/10, filling in for injured Mark Stuart, he scored 5-5-10 with a plus 12 rating in 38
games with the Bruins. Michigan alum is among 3 US-born players who will be
competing for the 6th or 7th spot on defending champs blueline.
43-D-Matt Bartkowski, 6/4/1988, 6-1, 196, Pittsburgh, PA
Skates well, and plays a defensive game that will suit him as he grows into his frame.
While Kampfer's style is offensive, Bartkowski's game is more in his own zone, and he
plays the body well. His chances to mke the team will determine on which style is
needed for depth.
36-D-Colby Cohen, 4/25/1989, 6-2, 200, Villanova, PA
Plays well at both ends. His upside is higher than Kampfer and Bartkowski, so it would
make sense if they let him develop playing more in the AHL unless injuries occur to
someone slotted in the top 4. Boston has no need to rush him.
