YOUNG AMERICANS
Who broke out in 2010-2011
67-LW-Max Pacioretty, 6-2, 196, 11/20/1988, New Canaan, CT
2010-11 stats: 37 GP, 14-10-24, 7 PPG
Prior to being the target of the infamous hit by Zdeno Chara, Pacioretty was playing a top
6 role and, as evidenced by his 7 powerplay goals, excelling. If he fully returns to health,
should be a great under the radar fantasy producer capable of 25 plus goals, 10 plus on
the powerplay. Projected to play on the second line with Scott Gomez and Erik Cole.
Who is ready to break out in 2011-12
51-RW-Aaron Palushaj, 5-11, 187, 9/7/1989, Livonia, MI
Has tremendous offensive abilities, Palushaj blossomed in the AHL last year posting 22-
35-57 in 68 games. With Andrei Kostitsyn appearing to be on the way out, there would
seem to be room for a gifted playmaker in the Habs lineup to play with Erik Cole.
Injuries have already knocked Ryan White and Lars eller from the bottom
6, so the youngster Engqvist will get his shot at the start of the year.
Gomez was awful last year, and is determined to regain his status as a
top 6 stud. Young but talented Pacioretti and the proven Cole will give him
2 physical wingers who can finish. Cammalleri scores big goals, and
Gionta almost finished with 300 shots last year.
Many pundits criticized the Habs for resigning Andrei Markov, who is an elite defender
when healthy, instead of replacing him with another top defenseman, and it's hard to
argue with him starting the year on the IR already. They brought in Chris Campoli for
depth, but he got hurt before the season started, as well. This means 2 rookies start
the season. Habs hoping they don't go through 15 dmen again this year. Young
Subban will have to mature quickly as the anchor of this group.
Price is living up to his billing. Despite playing behind a
patchwork defense group last season, he matured into
the calm, cool and steady player you want in an elite goal
keeper. Budaj needs to give the team 25 solid starts so
they can rest Price for the playoffs with confidence.
