YOUNG AMERICANS
Who is ready to break out in 2011-12
12-RW-Nick Palmieri, 6-3, 220, R, 7/12/1989, Utica, NY
Has great size and has shown goal-scoring skills, putting up seasons of 20+ goals in
both the OHL and AHL. Not afraid to use his size. Should develop into a 25 goal, 100
PIM power forward who can cause havoc in front of opposing net. Will struggle to break
50 points until he learns to utilize his linemates and pass better. But he will never be a
set up man. He is a powerful goal scorer through and through.
New Jersey Devils
Sykora surprised by cracking the lineup off a try out pact in camp, but will give the team
a top 6 forward to fill in the void created by Zajac's injury. Parise and Kovalchuk can take
games over. Is Palmieri ready to become the 25 goal, 120 PIM power forward this team
needs? The bottom 6 is filled with youth, and inconsistent players like Clarkson and
Tedenby who haven't panned out as planned.
Five steady and no-frills guys. It was big for them to bring back
Greene. They need Larsson to become the stud #1 blueliner this
team has lacked since losing Scott Niedermeyer. That is probably
too much to ask form a rookie, but he has played against men in
Europe and impressed in camp.
How much does Brodeur have left in the
tank? How good can he be behind a team in
transition? Will they actually play Hedberg
more and rest Marty as they keep saying they
will? There are a lot of questions
surrounding this team, but goalie isn't
among them
