PROSPECTS
INJURED:
LW - Steve Sullivan
33, R, 5-9, 155
D - Shea Weber 22, R, 6-1, 196
D - Kevin Klein 22, R, 6-1, 195
BENCH:
RW –
Jed Ortmeyer 29, R, 6-0, 193
D – Cody Franson 20, R, 6-5, 215
Vancouver (WHL) 59 GP, 17-34-51, 88 PIM
Won a gold medal with Canada at the World Junior
Championships, and then returned to the Vancouver Giants team
he’s an alternate captain for and helped them win the WHL
championship and then the Memorial Cup.  What a season for the
native of Salmon Arm, B.C.  Most forwards would have been proud
of his goal and point totals.  He played in every situation,
excelling on the power play with a rocket shot and excellent
vision.  Also plays well in his own zone.  With his talent and his
NHL-ready size, he won’t take long to crack the Predators roster
this year.
D – Kevin Klein 22, R, 6-1, 195
Milwaukee (AHL) 70 GP, 5-15-20, 67 PIM
He will most likely battle Franson for an NHL job in camp, and his
experience may give him the job.  He’s offensively skilled and he
is very productive in his own zone.  He and Franson would both
benefit from an extra year in the AHL, but because they possess
more talent than some of the guys on the Nashville roster they
may have to learn woth their feet in the fire.
C – Cal O’Reilly 21, L, 6-0, 193
Milwaukee (AHL) 78 GP, 18-47-65, 20 PIM
Has great awareness in the offensive end, and his creative passing
allows him to post impressive numbers.  He needs a lot of work in
his own end, as the -13 plus/minus he posted in the month of
January attests.  He’s firmly entrenched as the top-line center in
Milwaukee this year, and that’s the best thing for his development.
D – Teemu Laakso 20, R, 6-0, 200
HIFK Helsinki (Finland) 50 GP, 3-6-9, 70 PIM
Doesn’t have Chris Pronger’s size, and that can cause him
problems in the NHL because he likes to play a physical game.
This could lead to an injury-prone career if he doesn’t increase his
strength.  Skates very well and very fast.  Very aware on the ice,
and possesses good hands, a strong shot from the blue line and is
a capable passer.  He is raw, but playing among men in Finland
has him further along than most at his age.  Will apprentice in the
AHL this year.
LW – Patric Hornqvist 20, R, 5-11, 187
Djurgardens IF (Sweden) 49 GP, 23-11-34, 38 PIM
There are rumors that, even though he signed an entry level deal
with the Preds, Hornqvist will return to Europe this year.  He plays
a power forward game, but he doesn’t yet have a power forward
body.  His style has been compared to Peter Forsberg, but that
style also led to a career threatening injury history for Forsberg.
Look for him to crack the Preds lineup in 2008-09.
RW – Mike Santorelli 21, R, 5-11, 180
Northern Michigan (CCHA) 41 GP, 30-17-47, 28 PIM
Posted a +6 rating on a team that went 15-24-2, so his defensive
game is in good shape.  He is, without a doubt, a shooter.  He put
190 pucks on net in 41 games.  To get that many shots off in ANY
league takes some creativity.  He’ll start his pro career this year in
Milwaukee.  If his all-around play continues to progress, he’ll be
an injury call up this season.
D – Ville Koistinen 25, L, 5-11, 190
Milwaukee (AHL) 59 GP, 9-32-41, 44 PIM
He appears to be a Zidlicky clone, with an accurate point shot
and an overall power play acumen.  He has potential defensively,
but due to his size, he’ll have to rely on positioning and reflexes,
and that’ll improve with experience.
C – Rich Peverley 25, R, 6-0, 185
Milwaukee (AHL) 66 GP, 30-38-68, 62 PIM
Led the Admirals in scoring, despite playing 13 games while
making his NHL debut with the Predators.  Plays a well rounded
game.  Will be one of the first forwards called up by Nashville this
year if he doesn’t win the 4th line center’s job.  He’s in the last
year of his contract, and at 25 years old, he’s running out of time.
But three years is a normal time frame for US college players to
transition to the NHL.
