Why I started this site ...
Being a hockey fan in the United states these days can be very frustrating.  I was spoiled
through the late 1990s by ESPN's coverage of the NHL.  At least one day per week, fans could
watch the game they loved as the World Wide Leader aired regular season and playoff games.
Sportscenter would include almost nightly insight into the game with personalities like Barry
Melrose digging apart current issues, trends and the like.

After the lockout, ESPN dropped it's NHL coverage, and now fans for the most part are limited to
regional coverage.  Barry Melrose and the ESPN gang still provide excellent insights into the
game, but exposure is limited to websites, podcasts features shown late at night on ESPNews.

Fox Sports Net provides excellent regional coverage as the U.S.'s primary source for game
coverage.  NBC and Versus give the game excellent coverage from a national standpoint, but it
is only on a once per week basis.

Most U.S. newspapers, while employing knowledgeable and experienced writers, limit
coverage to game recaps and fan Q & A pieces.  Rarely do you see public interest segments
spotlighting players, and International events like the World Championships rarely get coverage.

That's why I started this sight.  We are seeing a passing of the torch within U.S.A. Hockey, as
Brett Hull, Doug Weight, Chris Chelios and Bill Guerin are nearing (or passing) the age of 40.
There is a new cast of players just making their mark on the pro game, and a slew of others
coming up through the junior and college ranks.  The team that takes the ice for the 2010
games will be dramatically different that the one I grew up with since 1992.

This site will give fans coverage of U.S. born players, as well as my opinions and observations.
I want to hear what other fans think as well.  If you can help me get the word out, notice
something I miss, or agree or disagree with something I have posted on this site, I want to
know about it.

Send me your thoughts at letters@ushockeyfan.com.

Thanks for taking the time to visit the site.
