YOUNG AMERICANS

Who is ready to break out in 2011-12

7-D-John Moore, 11/19/1990, 6-3, 198, Winnetka, IL
Has exceptional speed and was regarded as a top-end offensive player when drafted
21st overall in 2009.  However, he hasn’t produced points as a pro.  Granted, he’s only
20 and putting up big minutes against men bigger and stronger than he is in the AHL.
He may just need a little more time to fill out and develop. He moves the puck well and
that combined with his skating should make him a solid top 4 defenseman, something
the Blue Jackets have lacked for a while.  But what will help him more, playing in all
situations and being "the guy" on the farm, or playing limited and protected minutes in
Columbus?

Carter and Nash are both capable of putting up 40 goals or more.  Prospal has the vision and
skills to set them up and could put up career-best assist numbers.  The question is can he
be consistent, something he hasn't done in his career?  Getting Huselius back will give this
team a playoff-quality collection of forwards.  But it's not the forwards in question...
Columbus has been in search of a dynamic, puck-moving defenseman since their
inception.  Count me as a believer that Wisniewski is that player, and that John Moore
will join him at some point to give this franchise a 1-2 punch like it's never had.  But that
punch may not come this year.  Wisniewski is incredibly abrasive on the ice, as proven
by the fact he's already suspended before the season even starts.  With this being his
5th team, you have to wonder if that abrasiveness is costing him in the locker room, as
well.  This group has a lot to prove.  But not as much as...
Columbus spent money to make this team a contender.  Other than
Mark Dekanich, who deserves a shot to push Mason but is now
injured, little attention was placed here.  The team still believes
Mason is "THE GUY."  He had a fantastic rookie season.  Two
seasons ago.  He's been average to worse since.  Still, he's only 23.
This is his 4th year, and the team is improved.  Time to make your
mark, Mr. Mason.
