Each line has a nice combination of both grit and skill.  If
Backlund can indeed flourish in the #1 center role and produce
50-60 points, this team can get back to the playoffs.  They need
Backlund, or someone, to play like a #1 center.  Offseason
pickup Paul Byron also will get a shot.
Bouwmeester needs to play like a franchise defenseman.
He's a dynamic skater and has top-end skills, he just needs to
play the way he's capable.  Giordano was the unit's top
offensive producer, but the unit would be much better if he was
2nd behind JayBo.  There is a lot of size and sandpaper here.
Kiprusoff is still an elite goaltender, and is capable of carrying
a team in the playoffs and through rough stretches during the
season.  The key is getting him some rest as he gets older.
Karlsson, all 6-6 of him, will get the opportunity to show he
can carry more of the load.
YOUNG AMERICANS

Who is ready to break out in 2011-12

52-C-Mitch Wahl, 1/22/1990, 6-0, 200, Long Beach, CA
finished his WHL career with 30-66-96, his second straight 30 goal season. Calgary has
been desperate to develop a top-line center for years, and Wahl appeared to be on his
way before a concussion cost him most of last year.
