YOUNG AMERICANS

Who broke out in 2010-2011

33-D-Alex Goligoski, 7/30/1985, 5-11, 180, Grand Rapids, MN
2010-11 stats:  83 GP, 14-32-46, +20, 7 PPG
“Gogo” wasn’t ever going to be anymore than a 4th or 5th defenseman for the Penguins.
The trade to the Stars vaulted him into being the #1 offensive option for an NHL team,
and it looks like opportunity came along at the right time in his development.  As long as
he has some forwards to finish what he starts on the rebuilding Stars, Goligoski should
be a top point producer among NHL defenseman for years to come.

They lost a 90-point player in Brad Richards.  There wasn't another one on the market.  So
Jamie Benn will slide into that role, and he's capable of a being 70-point player.  The other 20
points will come from everyone else pulling a little more weight.  My prediction:  Watch Steve Ott
rise to the occasion.  Last year, he put up 32 points and 183 PIMs.  Watch him go for 50 and
120 this season as he realizes what needs to be done.
Goligoski has risen to the occasion and has become a top-flight
offensive defenseman.  Robidas keeps defying all odds and
producing in every role the team places him in.  Souray was a bust at
his previous price, but at $1.65 million, he will prove valuable with his
shot from the point and physical play.  Can he stay healthy?
When healthy, Lehtonen is a high end NHL goalie.  He
played in a career-high 69 games last season and
posted a career-best 2.55 GAA.  He's struggled with
injuries in the past, but needs to follow last year with
another healthy campaign.  Raycroft has to earn the
coaches' trust and spell him enough to keep him healthy.
